Teaching Artist
Many folks think a "Teaching Artist" is someone who teaches art. And that is part of it. But the term is more accurately used to describe someone who uses the visual or performing arts to teach subjects like history, science, literacy, geometry etc. And, yes, art. I've used the "Swiss Army Knife" of educational tools that is "Theatre" to teach all of these. And sometimes I even get to use the arts to teach....the arts!
At one school I taught Kinetic Art: Art that moves, or that can only be appreciated if the viewer is moving. This one--with a short lesson about capillary action, got all the kids screaming which the teachers loved.
Paper plates are almost magically versatile. Before these ducks got taped to the ceiling in a familiar "V," (below) the kids taped them to rulers and "migrated" with them through the halls.
